Pregnancy loss
Miscarriages and stillbirths are often unexplainable. It’s almost never caused by something you did. Past abortions, sex, exercise, and most medications don’t cause pregnancy loss.
Miscarriage
A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. About 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Though miscarriages are common, it can be emotionally difficult. Feelings of grief and loss are normal after losing a pregnancy.
Stillbirth
A stillbirth is the loss of a pregnancy after the 20th week. Stillbirths are less common but can still occur. The causes of stillbirth are often unknown. Researchers are working to learn more about risk factors for stillbirth.
Abortion
In the U.S., about 1 out of 4 people will have an abortion. Making the choice to get an abortion is a personal experience. It may come with a range of different emotions. It’s common to feel grief, relief, anger, and guilt. You may need support to process through these feelings. Some people will want to go through their abortion experience alone. Other people may want to have friends, family, or their partner to support them.
